Description

The Sigma 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS Contemporary is a versatile, compact and lightweight, ultra-telephoto zoom lens designed exclusively for L-Mount full frame mirrorless cameras. With optical performance, rugged build quality and functionality that delivers professional results, this lens is perfect for wildlife, action, portraits and thanks a magnification ratio of 1:4.1, it’s also ideal for capturing close-up subjects in amazing detail.

Optical quality
The Sigma 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS boasts even better image quality than the brilliant DG version of the lens, with high-resolution image quality all the way to the edges, and superb optical performance across the zoom and focus range.

Optical design
The lens has a completely new optical design very different from the existing DG version of the lens. 22 elements in 16 groups include one FLD element and four SLD elements used for the effective correction of aberrations and distortions.

Stepping motor system
Thanks to the stepping motor system that is optimised for both phase detection AF and contrast AF, the Sigma 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS makes shooting with video or eye-tracking AF very smooth.

Tripod Socket TS-111
When using the 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS HSM | C or 105mm F1.4 DG HSM | A on a tripod, this tripod socket (sold separately) can be attached, helping to reduce strain on the camera body and offering better balance on the tripod.

Advanced features
Fast, smooth AF is enabled by a stepping motor optimised to the latest algorithm, and the lens has powerful image stabilisation (OS) of four stops built-in. When combined with a camera body with its own image stabilisation, the lens corrects for pitch and yaw axis rotations, providing even more compensation for camera shake. The stabilisation has two modes – one for general shooting and one for panning – and it’s possible to toggle between them quickly using a switch on the lens body. The lens features an AFL button, to which the user may assign a range of different functions via the camera, and a focus limiter switch that allows the user to optimise the AF range depending on the subject distance.

Build quality
The construction of the lens is designed to be both light and robust. Magnesium alloy is used around the tripod socket attachment, whereas for some other parts of the barrel, durable but light polycarbonate is used.
The lens features the dust and splash-proof seal on the mount to stop contamination in difficult shooting environments such as on beaches and during rainfall. There’s also a water and oil repellent coating on the frontmost surface of the lens, which helps keep the from element clear of debris.
